"What started as a therapy to treat severe work-related stress when I was on sick leave in 2013, is now my full time job! I have a background in the print, publishing and education sectors, so it made sense to combine my creative writing as a published author with the artistic skills I've built on since a small child. Books, created as miniatures and keepsakes have been around the world for grown-ups to treasure and read alongside their children and grandchildren. I've always been surrounded by cats; each had its own special place in my heart. It was when my black cat, Tinker passed away that I met my husband and he put a smile back on my face. Our present furbaby is Nikon, a female white tabby with a heart on her side. She loves to run off with my paintbrushes and walk through the ink - especially black ink! If painting the walls, she likes to jump up at the wet paint and decorate with her paws. Animals are a key feature in my books, writing, poetry and art. Judging by the reviews and feedback I receive from clients and customers, they bring great joy and comfort. You can read some of the reviews on my website. I work chiefly with ink and paint on a variety of surfaces including, but not limited to:

Lovingly Handmade Crochet:Laura makes gorgeous bespoke crochet animals from your photos and they make a wonderful gift to yourself or someone else.
"My name is Laura and I recently became disabled after being diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I decided to take up crochet as a hobby and to inspire other sufferers. Now I am obsessed and have made it into a business!! I now make my living from recreating people's pets in a "plushy" cuddly toy version. All my work is totally unique, and is handmade in the likeness of any chosen pet. I do not work from patterns or instructions therefor each creation is totally one of a kind, just like a beloved pet. After the loss of my cat, I have started to make memorial pets. These pets are extra special because they are created with a “secret” pocket on their stomachs, where I place a small vial ready to be filled with the ashes of your pet, or even other keepsakes like fur or photographs. Each memorial plush order is sent out with a 2g vial and a funnel to help make sure that transporting your companion’s ashes is as simple as possible. This gives the owner opportunity to hug, hold and gain physical comfort while they grieve their beloved pet and know that their pets spirit is inside it. Each creation is time consuming and a labour of love and dedication. Every toy takes between 40-60 hours of crochet to recreate all the beloved features of every pet. I look at all the photographs and select a colour palette out my vast yarn collection. I never use patterns. I begin by crocheting the head first. This is where their expression and features are most dominant. I then make the body and add any final touches and special features. The pets are made using various crochet stitches. The manipulation of these stitches gives the item shape and structure. The eye colour of the pet is selected from the photographs and appropriate safety eyes are added. The addition of a safety nose may be added depending on the photographs and what I believe will best suit the pet, to give the best effect. Any pet can be made. The dimensions of each pet are totally dependent on the breed, yarn and stitches I use. They will vary from make to make, so even if you were to order two plushies of your pet, they wouldn’t be identical! Most pets are between 8-12 inches long, and at least 10 inches from nose to tail. If you aren’t sure about placing an order, message me to discuss your requirements and I am certain there will be options to suit you. The option of the memorial pocket with vial and funnel is an optional extra. I know you will love them as much as I love making them."
